Effect of acceleration on the morphology-dependent optical resonances of spherical resonators

چکیده
An analysis is presented to estimate the perturbation of morphology-dependent optical resonances (MDRs) of spherical dielectric cavities due to acceleration. In the model, the optical cavity is attached to a rigid base that is accelerating. Hertz contact theory is used to describe the contact surface between the base and the sphere, and the Navier equation is solved to obtain an expression for MDR shift dependence on the base acceleration. An experiment is also carried out using a polydimethylsiloxane sphere as the optical cavity. The predictions using the analysis agree well with the experimental results. © 2011 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 350.0350, 080.0080, 060.0060, 230.0230.

Effect of Angular Velocity on Sensors Based on Morphology Dependent Resonances
We carried out an analysis to investigate the morphology dependent optical resonances shift (MDR) of a rotating spherical resonator. The spinning resonator experiences an elastic deformation due to the centrifugal force acting on it, leading to a shift in its MDR. Experiments are also carried out to demonstrate the MDR shifts of a spinning polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microsphere. The experiment...
متن کاملDesigning Multipolar Resonances in Dielectric Metamaterials
Dielectric resonators form the building blocks of nano-scale optical antennas and metamaterials. Due to their multipolar resonant response and low intrinsic losses they offer design flexibility and high-efficiency performance. These resonators are typically described in terms of a spherical harmonic decomposition with Mie theory. In experimental realizations however, a departure from spherical ...
